We gather the latest rental market data and analyse some of the most heated areas, led by City of London.

In London, almost 24,000 residents earn an income through renting a home. Interestingly, PCL ranks top regarding the share of landlords to the total number of residents living in the area (per capita).

Landlord Hotspots In London

Currently, there are 2.65m landlords across the UK or almost 4,000 per 100,000 people. Regionally, the South East outperforms other areas with the highest number of landlords (9.3m). However, London ranks first regarding the biggest share of landlords to the total population.

City of London outperforms other London neighbourhoods in the number of landlords per capita and ranks as the most heated rental property market, with Richmond and Kensington and Chelsea following next. Elmbirdge, South Hams, and Barnet also perform well and attract many landlords to invest in the areas.

In contrast, Kingston upon Hull ranks last regarding the average number of landlords per capita (only 1,017 landlords per 100,000 people).

Industry Shares

Property experts highlight the significance of the property market in the UK for buyers and landlords alike. New homeowners fulfil their homeownership dreams, while landlords are making a living out of renting a property. It is fulfilling to see high numbers of landlords per capita despite challenging market settings and strict government policies for landlords.

Interestingly, property technology (PropTech) and digitisation allow us to live in one part of the UK and invest in a property in the other. It allows landlords to make better financial decisions and take new opportunities without relocating.
