Putney is one of the loveliest spots in London, with that rare quality of being close to the heart of the city but with the feel of a small town. From the banks of the River Thames to Putney Heath, its green spaces have attracted Londoners since the days of Queen Elizabeth I, when people came to relax and escape the stress of the city. To this day, there is a real sense of the great outdoors and greenery at almost every turn – parkland on both sides of the Thames and Putney Embankment for Sunday strolls to Barnes. Putney is one of the best spots in London to watch that quintessentially British sports event, the annual Boat Race. A short distance away is the expanse of Richmond Park, the largest and wildest of London’s royal parks.

Putney has historically been a draw for its green spaces and quiet residential streets but these days restaurants and cafés, theatres, bars and riverside pubs add to its appeal.
