Resident-Led Masterplan

Populo, in partnership with Newham Council, is spearheading the delivery of the ambitious masterplan for The Carpenters Estate, which has garnered strong support from residents.

Key Features of the Masterplan

• 2,152 modern and sustainable homes will be constructed, with 50% designated as genuinely affordable housing.
• Over 10,000 sqm of commercial space will be integrated, featuring a new building crafts college, cafes, restaurants, shops, and workshops.
• The development will feature better connected streets, providing a clear route to Stratford station, with houses and maisonettes centrally located and taller buildings positioned towards the periphery.

Community Impact

The regeneration initiative aims to foster inclusive growth in Newham by generating hundreds of local jobs and apprenticeships, supporting local businesses through procurement, and attracting new investment to the borough over the project's 15-year duration.

Sustainable Approach

The homes at the new Carpenters Estate will be constructed using high-quality materials and designed to withstand the test of time. Additionally, 44% of the existing homes, including two iconic towers, will be retained and refurbished to meet Newham Council's standards for energy performance, aligning with the borough's response to the climate emergency.

The new Carpenters Estate aims to create a 15-minute neighbourhood, where residents have easy access to essential amenities, including community, education, and commercial facilities, promoting a good quality of life.
