Amenities
From the outset, the team designing homes at Battersea Power Station has been clear that the amenities and facilities on the Power Station site itself will make living here a remarkable experience.
With that in mind, we’ve invested a lot of time and imagination into thinking about the type of residents’ amenities which will make living here a really special experience, and subsequently we have created a bespoke residents’ lounge – designed by David Linley- and offering socialising and working spaces on the riverside, accessed by a triple storey glass foyer.
For those that prefer retail theatre, the shops and restaurants are being carefully put together so that whatever you need is within an easy walk – be it a Sunday night dash to the local shop for milk and bread, or a day spent choosing a unique gift from one of Britain’s hottest fashion houses.

Electric Boulevard, a new pedestrianised high street connecting Gehry Partners' Prospect Place and Foster + Partners' Battersea Roof Gardens to the riverside neighbourhood's Zone 1 London Underground Station, opens today as well.
Visitors will be able to explore the Turbine Halls of the Power Station, which have been meticulously restored to their former glory and transformed into a one-of-a-kind retail and leisure destination.
British and international brands opening new stores today include:
A new neighbourhood bookstore, Battersea Bookshop, from specialist bookseller Stanfords, and Curated Makers will host more than 40 local independent small businesses selling homeware, candles, clothing, artwork and more will also be opening within the Power Station. Further brands will open through 2022 and 2023.
Eateries opening inside the Power Station include Le Bab, Where The Pancakes Are, Poke House, Clean Kitchen Club and Paris Baguette to name a few. Inception Group, London’s most experiential hospitality company, is also opening an exciting new bar concept, Control Room B, in one of the original control rooms. The immersive experience is completely unique with cocktails inspired by the Grade II* listed building’s iconic architecture and history, transporting guests back to the 1950s when the second half of the Power Station was built.
The Boiler House at the heart of Grade II* listed building will be home to the recently announced 24,000 sq. ft Arcade Food Hall from JKS Restaurants, which will open in 2023.
Electric Boulevard, a new high street to the south of the Power Station, opens today with ZARA and ZARA Home, opticians and eyewear specialists, David Clulow, and Korean food and culture hub, Oseyo. A new-concept M&S Foodhall will follow shortly along with the UK’s first art’otel, a 164-room hotel with a Michelin-starred chef, Henrique Sa Pessoa, running its new restaurant, JOIA.
Earlier this week, The King and Queen of Malaysia visited Battersea Power Station to officiate the opening ceremony and unveiled a plaque to mark this historic moment.
Investment Minister, Lord Johnson, commented: “Battersea Power Station is a shining example of the positive power of foreign investment. The £5bn investment to date by the Malaysian Consortium has not only helped regenerate an iconic London landmark but also massively improved transport connections in Wandsworth.
“Most importantly, the development created thousands of local jobs, across construction, retail and hospitality. It’s a real testament to our thriving trade and investment partnership with Malaysia and the importance of trade for creating jobs and driving growth.”
The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan added: “As a lifelong South Londoner, I am particularly delighted to see the iconic Battersea Power Station opening its doors for the first time in forty years as a new addition to London’s thriving shopping and entertainment landscape.
“This redevelopment of a 20th Century London landmark has already helped to deliver new investment, vital transport links and jobs for local people. Battersea Power Station will now breathe new life into this part of London – attracting more investment and boosting our economy as we build a better London for everyone.”
Dato’ Jagan Sabapathy, Chairman of Battersea Project Holding Company, commented: “The opening of Battersea Power Station is a turning point for this riverside neighbourhood and the pinnacle of ten years of hard work and dedication. Re-opening this prestigious building, which means so much to Londoners and the world, demonstrates what can be achieved by the Malaysian people, working collaboratively with partners from across the world, to deliver inspirational projects. This achievement is something for our whole country to be proud of, and I hope many will come to visit.”
Simon Murphy, Chief Executive Officer at Battersea Power Station Development Company, addedd: “Today marks a historic and hugely celebratory moment as we open Battersea Power Station and Electric Boulevard to the public. Many said it was impossible, several tried and failed, however through the commitment of our shareholders and with the support of many Public and Private sector stakeholders in the UK, we’ve succeeded in bringing Battersea Power Station back to life so that it can be enjoyed for generations to come. This opening is a fantastic boost for the local economy, creating over 2,500 jobs through the many shops, restaurants, offices and leisure venues opening here, as well as providing a new destination for London.
“We are truly thrilled to welcome the local community, Londoners and visitors from across the globe to come and explore this Grade II* listed landmark that many have marvelled at from afar for years. Now, for the first time, everybody can walk inside, interact with the magnificent architecture and experience all that the reborn Battersea Power Station has to offer.”
Emily Gee, Historic England Regional Director, said: “We are delighted that the Grade II* listed Battersea Power Station, one of London’s most recognised and cherished landmarks, is opening its doors to the public. The sheer scale and condition of the Power Station presented major challenges to its repair and reuse. But through years of dedication and partnership working, together we have ensured that the building’s major conservation needs have been met. This transformational redevelopment has secured a bright future for the building, with exciting uses that bring the public inside for the first time and show the power of our industrial heritage and its potential for regeneration.”
The opening of Battersea Power Station and Electric Boulevard extends this already well-established neighbourhood, from the 20-plus shops, restaurants and bars that have been open in Circus West Village since 2017, and over 2,000 residents who live across Circus West Village, the Power Station, Gehry Partners’ Prospect Place and Foster + Partner’s Battersea Roof Gardens.
With the Northern Line extended to give this new riverside neighbourhood its very own Zone 1 London Underground station, Battersea Power Station is within 15 minutes of the West End and the City. Battersea Power Station is also easily accessible via the Uber Boat by Thames Clippers river bus service, bike, train and on foot.
Battersea Power Station opens to the public on Friday 14th October 2022.
The official opening date of the London landmark was announced this morning in front of the Power Station by a group of newspaper boys and girls dressed in 1930s attire, a nod to when Battersea Power Station first began generating electricity in 1933.
Electric Boulevard, the new pedestrianised high street, which runs from the south of the Power Station, between Frank Gehry’s Prospect Place and Foster + Partners’ Battersea Roof Gardens to the new Battersea Power Station Zone 1 Underground station, will also open on the same day.
Inside the Turbine Halls, shoppers will find an array of British and international brands, with the first wave opening in October including:
- Hugo Boss
- Theory
- Lacoste
- Ralph Lauren
- Aesop
- Space NK
- Ace + Tate
- lululemon
- Mulberry
- Jo Malone London
- Uniqlo
- Mango
- Battersea Bookshop from specialist bookseller Stanfords
More brands will be announced in the lead up to the grand opening.
The Boiler House at the heart of the development will also be home to the recently announced 24,000 sq. ft Arcade Food Hall from JKS Restaurants which will open in 2023. Other food and beverage venues joining the line up inside the Power Station are Le Bab, Where The Pancakes Are, Poke House, Clean Kitchen Club, Gordon Ramsay’s Bread Street Kitchen & Bar and Paris Baguette.
These will complement a great mix of bars and restaurants already open in Circus West Village, the first chapter in the regeneration of Battersea Power Station, including Sugen Gopal’s Roti King, Tapas Brindisa, Wright Brothers, Vagabond Wines, Megan’s at the Power Station, Battersea Brewery, Francesco Mazzei’s Fiume and Vivek Singh’s Cinnamon Kitchen to name a few.
The Power Station’s two Control Rooms have also been fully restored. Control Room A is set to become a unique events space and Control Room B has been transformed into an exciting new all-day bar concept, where patrons will be able to get up close and personal with the Control Room’s original dials and controls.
A host of entertainment venues are also set to open, including The Cinema at the Power Station – whose sister site The Cinema in the Arches is located under the railway arches in Circus West Village. It will play host to a private members club alongside showing the latest blockbusters in their state-of-the-art screens.
Electric Boulevard, the new high street, will offer a mix of bars and restaurants, office space, shops, a park, community hub and a new 164-room hotel from art’otel London Battersea Power Station, the brand’s first hotel to open in the UK.
Retailers already announced to be opening on Electric Boulevard later this year include high street favourite, ZARA, a new-concept M&S Foodhall and a 28,000 sq. ft club from London fitness brand, Third Space, will also be opening in 2023.
Simon Murphy, Chief Executive Officer at Battersea Power Station Development Company (BPSDC), commented: “It has taken a lot of hard work, determination, and the continued commitment of the Malaysian Shareholders over the past ten years to bring Battersea Power Station back to its former glory. Announcing that we will be opening the building to the public for the first time in history in just over a month’s time is a monumental moment for the project. We can’t wait to welcome the first visitors, and show the local community, Londoners, and the rest of the world, the historic beauty of the Grade II* listed building, which has been transformed into London’s most unique destination for all to enjoy.”
Over 2,500 new jobs will be created once the Power Station's doors open, with a total of 17,000 jobs created once the entire 42-acre project is completed.

The vibrant riverside neighbourhood is home to more than 1,800 residents and over 20 cafés, bars, restaurants, shops, fitness and leisure facilities.
With the Northern Line having been extended to give this new neighbourhood its very own Zone 1 London Underground station, bringing it within 15 minutes of the West End and the City, Battersea Power Station is expected to draw visitors from across the capital and the globe, becoming one of London’s most visited destinations, boosting the local economy and creating over 17,000 jobs.
Battersea Power Station has reached practical completion of Grade II* listed Power Station. Eight years after starting on site, the landmark building is set to open to the public this autumn.
The Grade II* listed building includes 254 apartments, over 500,000 sq ft of office space, and unique events and leisure offering, including the chimney lift experience, which will take visitors 109 metres up to the top of the Power Station’s north-west chimney, offering stunning 360-degree views of London’s skyline. The Power Station’s Turbine Halls house over 100 shops, bars and restaurants.
The six-acre riverfront park opened to the public earlier this year and hosted the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, attended by more than 80,000 people.
Thousands of jobs were created for the construction and design industries as part of the building’s restoration, and over 2,500 jobs are created once the Power Station opens to the public.
Architect WilkinsonEyre, construction managers Mace Group and Historic England, have done extensive and highly skilled conservation work throughout the Power Station to preserve and enhance its historic features. This includes the building’s four iconic chimneys, which have been rebuilt using the original construction method, having been deemed unsafe following extensive surveys. More than 25,000 wheelbarrows of concrete were poured by hand into shuttered layers which were left to set one by one. Samples of the original paint were also taken and colour-matched to determine the choice of paint applied, with each chimney requiring 375 litres.
About 1.75 million handmade bricks were ordered from the two original British brickmakers who supplied the bricks to build Battersea Power Station to match the originals. Family-owned Northcot Brick, based in Gloucestershire, have made 1.3 million bricks to restore parts of the Power Station built in the 1930s and 1940s, while 440,000 bricks from Blockleys in Telford, Shropshire, were used to refurbish the final parts of the building dating from the 1950s.
Simon Murphy, Chief Executive Officer of Battersea Power Station Development Company (BPSDC), commented: “Today, on behalf of the Shareholders, Sime Darby Property, S P Setia and the Employees’ Provident Fund, we are proud to announce the practical completion of the main build of Battersea Power Station, creating a new destination for all to live, work, eat and play. This is the culmination of nearly eight years of painstaking restoration work, transforming this former derelict building into a World-class destination to be enjoyed for generations. We are now working with the retail and leisure brands as they fit out their spaces ahead of the opening of this wonderful building to the public for the first time in Autumn.
We thank the entire team of highly skilled experts and visionaries who have been integral and committed in helping turn the shareholders’ vision into a reality.”
Gareth Lewis, CEO for Mace Construct, added: “We are extremely proud of the exceptional work the Mace team, our specialist trade contractors, our fantastic client Battersea Power Station, architects WilkinsonEyre and the wider project team have delivered on the restoration of one of the UK’s architectural icons. This has been one of the most complex construction projects ever delivered in the UK and we’re looking forward to seeing a building that was left derelict for nearly forty years, come alive and be a hive of activity for all to enjoy.”
London’s newest pedestrianised high street, Electric Boulevard, is also set to open this year. Designed by Gehry Partners and Foster + Partners, the new high street, will feature shops, restaurants, a community hub, a new park and a 164-room art’otel, the brand’s first hotel in the UK overlooking the Power Station itself.
Circus West Village, the first chapter in the regeneration of Battersea Power Station, already includes Sugen Gopal’s Roti King, Francesco Mazzei’s Fiume and Chef Vivek Singh’s Cinnamon Kitchen. The new riverside neighbourhood is home to more than 1,800 residents and over 20 cafés, bars, restaurants, shops, fitness and leisure facilities.
First residents move into Switch House East, the second residential element of the Grade II* listed Power Station to complete.
Switch House East is situated within the existing historic structure of the Power Station and offers studio, one, two- and three-bedroom apartments.
Many of the building’s original elements have been restored during the redevelopment, overseen by WilkinsonEyre as lead architects, with the new homes featuring brick and steelwork from the 1940s, whilst introducing a contemporary feel to the industrial heritage of the building.
In addition to the apartments in the historic structure, Switch House East also offers modern duplex apartments, which are located in three glazed floors added to the top of the building. The new homes feature spacious living and dining areas with fully equipped open plan kitchens and wooden floors. Each home also comes with windows from the floor to high ceilings, maximising the stunning views across the River Thames and offering an abundance of natural light.
Residents at Switch House East have direct access to two internal private landscaped courtyards and a rooftop garden with fantastic views of the Power Station and its iconic chimneys, allowing residents to really experience the uniqueness of living at the London landmark.
