This scheme is in partnership with the London Borough of Islington, a local authority we have an established relationship with. This comprises five new residential mews blocks (from 1 to 4 storeys) and a single six-storey residential block. The blocks will wrap around an existing 15-storey tower block and form a new communal garden space for the residents. The current 59 flats are served by a continuous communal south embedded garden, leaving the Western boundary to house much of the mature trees in an enhanced amenity garden.
The houses are sited in six new blocks, five of which four or fewer storeys, to form a new mews around the existing tower. The sixth block is a 6 storey building fronting onto Canonbury Road addressing Highbury Corner and forming the main entrance to the site.
The new pavilion homes, designed on the mews scale by architects Burrell Foley Fischer, provide each house with a human-scale and unique identity at ground level entrance doors that offer views both inwards to the Secret Garden site beyond. At Highbury Corner, the architecture will align with new public realm improvements planned by TfL and LB Islington to provide a publicly accessible arboretum in place of the existing roundabout.
